FAQs about Gr2 Control. Courtesy of GNLD International

Q. How is GR2 Control different from other diets?

A. GNLD’s scientifically-proven program helps you lose weight and inches while improving your overall health. GR2 Control empowers you to control your glycemic response and enables your body to burn fat for fuel, instead of storing it. You can lose weight without going hungry or feeling deprived. And, you can enjoy an abundance of different foods while on the program! You will lose weight while improving your chances for a new, healthier you, now and in the future.

Q. What if I start to feel a lack of energy while on the program?

A. The GR2 Control Weight Loss Program is designed to provide the average adult with stabilized blood glucose levels to maintain high energy levels and avoid hyper- and hypoglycemia throughout the day. In fact, users report that their energy levels have never been higher than while on GR2 Control! Some individuals, especially those who are physically active and/or have a large amount of lean body mass (more muscular than average, hence a higher metabolic rate), may need to add an additional mini-meal in order to maintain consistent energy levels. We recommend that you give the program a few days before deciding whether or not to add an extra mini-meal. During the first few days of the program, your body will be making metabolic changes in order to adapt to your new weight loss regimen. It normally stabilizes within a few days and you’ll feel great!

Q. What if I become constipated while on the program?

A. Most people who experience constipation while on the GR2 Control program either are not drinking enough water, and/or are not choosing enough fiber-rich foods for mini-meals and from the “ENJOY” list. Water is critical to proper elimination. You need to drink a minimum of eight, 8-oz. glasses of water every day. See your Success Guide for tips on how to incorporate drinking more water into your daily routine. Fiber, too, is critical to proper elimination. The amount of fiber contained in a one-day supply of GR2 Control products (Appetite Reducer and Meal Replacement Protein Shake) is more than what the typical American eats in a day. When combined with fiber-rich mini-meals and evening meal choices, the GR2 Control Weight Loss Program provides a healthy level of fiber that fits the needs of most people. However, there may be some that require additional fiber in their diets. For those individuals, we suggest one of GNLD’s fiber products to supplement their daily fiber intakes.

Q. What if I develop headaches while on the program?

A. Headaches are often a sign of low blood sugar. If you develop headaches within a few hours of any of your meals, your activity level may be too high for the amount of carbohydrates that you are taking in. Make sure that you are following the mini-meal suggestions closely. If headaches persist, consult your doctor.

Q. How long can I stay on the program?

A. You may use GR2 Control products for as long as you like! Once you’ve achieved your goal weight, you will go into a maintenance phase that you can follow indefinitely. See your Success Guide for a detailed description of how to use GR2 Control products as part of a lifelong weight maintenance plan.

Q. I want to know if lactose-intolerant people will be able to take the GR2 Control Meal Replacement Shake.

A. Absolutely! In fact, to minimize the adverse effect of lactose intolerance, GNLD product formulators employed a unique mix of protein sources for GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake. Some of these protein sources are from milk (caseinate), but contain only a small amount of lactose. Some of the protein is provided by soy, which contains no lactose. You and your customers will be happy to know that the amount of lactose in a serving of GR2 Control is well within a tolerable limit for nearly any lactose intolerant individual.

Q. Can I still drink Vitality Aloe Vera Plus while on the program?

A. Vitality Aloe Vera Plus is a perfect accompaniment to GR2 Control. Vitality Aloe Vera Plus is sweetened with fructose (only a few grams per serving!) so it has a very low glycemic response. However, we’d like to point out that when on the GR2 Control Weight Loss Program, it’s important to only consume Vitality Aloe Vera Plus in the label-recommended amounts to insure optimum weight loss success.

Q. At what age can one use GR2 Control?

A. GR2 Control was formulated for use by healthy adults who are not under a doctor’s care, nor have prescribed dietary restrictions. Adults who are unsure if GR2 Control will work with a prescribed nutrition program should consult their doctor. Children should only use the GR2 Control Weight Loss Program under supervision of their pediatrician.

Q. Can the Meal Replacement Protein Shake be mixed and then frozen to take with me to use later? Will it still have the same nutrient value?

A. Freezing the Meal Replacement Protein Shake right after mixing will not affect nutrient delivery. However, the GR2 Control insulated lunch bag makes it easy to mix your shake anywhere, anytime. Just measure out a serving of Meal Replacement Protein Shake mix and place it in the screw-top container. Later, you can pour it in the plastic GNLD shaker, add water, shake, and voila! — your shake is ready!

Q. Can pregnant women and women who are breast-feeding use the new GR2 Control Weight Loss Program?

A. Proper nutrition during pregnancy and while breast-feeding is extremely critical to the overall long-term good health of both the mother and the baby. That is why we always recommend that pregnant/nursing mothers consult with their doctor and follow his/her nutritional advice. Weight gain during pregnancy is normal, and to a point, necessary. If your doctor feels that your weight gain is too great, however, then GR2 Control may be an option.

Q. Will heating the Meal Replacement Protein Shake destroy any of its nutrients?

A. Heating the Meal Replacement Protein Shake will destroy some of the nutrients, especially vitamin C, if heated to a high temperature. However, if Meal Replacement Protein Shake is warmed up (after mixing in cold water) to a heat similar to that used with oatmeal, most of the nutrients will remain unchanged. But, keep in mind that this product was not formulated to be heated, therefore to optimize nutrient delivery, mix and use as directed.

Q. What is the difference between GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake and NouriShake?

A. There are several major differences between NouriShake and GR2 Control: GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake is formulated specifically as a meal replacement. Consequently, it contains a full assortment of vitamins and minerals. On the other hand, NouriShake is not formulated for this use, therefore it lacks the precise vitamin/mineral mix needed for healthy, optimum weight loss. GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake contains only about 125 calories per serving, NouriShake contains 220 calories per serving. Finally, NouriShake can be mixed with milk, juice, or water, all of which alter its nutritional factors (calories, protein, glycemic response). On the other hand, Meal Replacement Protein Shake is only mixed with water, which assures the same nutrients are delivered time after time.

Q. Can I use Doctors’ Diet as a replacement for the GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake?

A. GR2 Control is one step further up the scientific ladder of understanding weight loss and weight control. Since Doctors’ Diet was formulated to be mixed with milk, the higher carbohydrate values cause you to lose the glycemic response advantage that GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake gives you. Doctors’ Diet also has almost twice the amount of calories per serving as GR2 Control Meal Replacement Shake.

Q. I’ve never heard of Acesulfame-K, is it safe?

A. Absolutely! Acesulfame-K (Acesulfame-Potassium or Ace-K) is an inert, non-nutritive sweetener which has garnered the acceptance of essentially every major food safety institute and organization worldwide. It has undergone more than two decades worth of safety testing and clinical trials in laboratories around the world.

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) has conducted extensive research into the safety of food and food additives. We have one of the leading food technologists on our board, Dr. Laszlo Somogyi. Our SAB has also had two of the world’s leading toxicologists participating in the process; Dr. Arthur Furst (prior to his recent retirement) and Dr. Gordon Newell, both Diplomates of the American College of Toxicology. These, along with the other members of the SAB, Drs. Fred Hooper, Arianna Carughi and David Shepherd, have worked hard assuring the safety of Ace-K, as they do all raw materials used in GNLD products. The information provided to us through that research and investigation tells us Ace-K is safe, effective and appropriate for use in the GR2 Control product line.

Q. What if I suffer from hypoglycemia - can I use the program?

A. Most individuals with hypoglycemia need a diet that helps maintain steady blood sugar levels, and GR2 Control is a perfect way of doing so. In fact, GR2 Control is specifically formulated to help you maintain a constant blood sugar level throughout the day. With GR2 Control, you will not experience the “glycemic roller coaster” that triggers hypoglycemia. If you are on medication for hypoglycemia, you should consult with your doctor before using the GR2 Control Weight Loss Program.

Q. What if I have Type I or Type II diabetes?

A. The GR2 Control Weight Loss Program was formulated using knowledge gained from diabetic diets. For those who are non-insulin dependent (Type II diabetes), GR2 Control is an excellent program to help keep blood sugar in control. For Type I diabetics who rely on insulin, GR2 Control is a fantastic program that will help you maintain steady blood sugar levels, but we do suggest that you consult with your doctor to ensure that the program meets your exact needs.

Q. Can I use the program if I have thyroid problems?

A. Yes, you can! Although many people with hypo/hyperthyroid conditions do not need to lose weight, those who do can use GR2 Control and enjoy all the benefits our program has to offer.

Q. My doctor says I have heart disease. Can I still use the program?

A. Most adults who are diagnosed with cardiovascular disease can improve their health by using GR2 Control. Our weight loss program supports your efforts to decrease the risk factors that may contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease. GR2 Control Weight Loss Program not only helps you lose weight, it also offers an explosion of health benefits not found in any other weight loss program.

Q. Can I use the program if I’m taking prescription medications?

A. In most cases, yes, you can. Millions of adults rely on some form of prescription medication daily for treatment of a variety of ailments. The vast majority of these require no special dietary restrictions. But there are a few medications that do require a very specific diet.

Q. Would it be advisable to add PhytoDefense to the GR2 Control program?

A. Absolutely! While we encourage optimum consumption of fruits and vegetables in our mini-meal and main meal choices, you may still fall short of the optimal 9 servings a day. To help insure you get the full benefits of a diet rich in phytonutrient-rich fruits and vegetables, supplement with PhytoDefense!

Q. What are vegetarian substitutes for meats, besides tofu?

A. Besides tofu, vegetarians can make stews prepared with low glycemic index grains, such as couscous, quinoa, bulgar, tabbouleh, barley, or wild rice. Legumes, such as lentils, beans (pinto, red, black, kidney, white), peas (split, black-eyed), and chickpeas not only have a low glycemic index, but also add lots of protein to the diet. Tempeh and milk products are also excellent sources of protein and calcium. Plus, ovo- vegetarians can consume eggs as part of their meals.

The vegetarian lunches on page 22 of the Success Guide can also be used for dinner. Additionally, a healthy, balanced vegetarian meal can be easily designed by using the Enjoy/Avoid booklet.

Q. Some of us are losing weight very slowly, counter to the claims and testimonies. Would a loss of six pounds and 1-2 inches in 2 weeks be normal?

A. Actually that’s very good! Keep in mind that weight loss rates will vary, as they are dependent on many different factors. For example, people who don’t have as much weight to lose may take off the pounds slower than someone with more to lose may. And, some people may be sticking with the plan, while others might be altering it to suit their own preferences. Those that stick to the plan as outlined in the Success Guide will experience results faster than those who don’t. However, we can assure you that someone who has lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks is definitely on the road to success!

Q. Is it true that the Enjoy/Avoid guide is only for dinner? Can any substitutions be made for the mini-meals, or will more suggestions be added later?

A. The Enjoy/Avoid booklet is designed to help the user in several ways. Primarily, the booklet helps GR2 Control participants pick items for their main meal. Additionally, the Enjoy/Avoid booklet provides guidelines for meal choices when a GR2 Control shake is not available, like at a party or when dining out. And lastly, the booklet helps the user to make wise food choices when at the supermarket. By using the guide in these circumstances, the participant can choose foods that are both nutritious and are part of the program. Finally, the booklet gives food choices for those that have met their weight loss goals and are now in a maintenance phase.

The mini-meal suggestions should not be substituted, as they are designed specifically to go hand-in-hand with the program. However, we will be adding mini-meal suggestions as time goes by.

Q. Should breads be checked for sugar content? Is there an allowable range, since most have some sweetener in them? What about oils?

A. If a GR2 Control participant is choosing breads based on the Enjoy list, the minor differences in oils or sugars will not make a difference in the overall program. However, if a participant has narrowed the choices down to two different breads, then go with the one that has fewer sugars or more fiber.

Q. Are we to be watching the total grams of sugar in various products? Are sugar-free flavored yogurts allowed?

A. Yes, sugar-free flavored yogurts are allowed, and are listed in the Enjoy/Avoid booklet under the Enjoy, Dairy, Other heading. Keep in mind that if one is choosing food choices based on the Enjoy list, then minor variations between brands will not negatively impact the program. GR2 Control is not a low carbohydrate program, thus the participants need carbohydrates for energy.

Q. It would be helpful to have the serving sizes listed on the pages of the Enjoy/Avoid booklet.

A. The Enjoy/Avoid booklet was designed to be a pocket guide that could be taken anywhere, easily. Because we do not have enough room on the pages of the Enjoy/Avoid booklet to list serving size, we have given some examples of serving sizes in the Success Guide, both on pages 17-19 (mini-meals) and on page 22 (serving sizes in general). Additionally, serving size is normally listed on the label for foods like cheeses, nuts, and legumes. For fruits and vegetables, a 1/2 cup to 1 cup is usually recommended. Fruits like apples and pears that can be eaten whole would be counted as one serving.

We have purposefully stayed away from designating strict serving sizes, as the program is designed with the thought that the participants on it are sensible enough not to go overboard. For example, if someone had two cups of watermelon cubes with their dinner meal, it would be okay, whereas a whole watermelon wouldn’t be wise. However, there aren’t too many people out there (if any) who would eat a whole watermelon in one sitting, so we didn’t feel we had to concern ourselves with stipulating serving size. The rule of thumb is if you think you have too much food, then you probably do! Stick to one helping per food choice, and you’ll be just fine.

Q. When would one eat the sweets and treats listed in the Enjoy/Avoid booklet?

A. Sweets and treats would be best eaten after the main meal, as a dessert.

Q. What is the amino acid breakdown for GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Shake?

A. Each flavor of GR2 Meal Replacement Protein Shake has slightly different components. The different flavors vary slightly in their amino acid totals. The following list gives a range of amino acids across flavors.

FAQs about GR2eat Bars Courtesy of GNLD International

Q. We live in an area where the temperatures reach over 100 degrees. Do we need to be concerned with the bars melting?

A. The GR2eat bars are formulated to have a high melting point and should tolerate the heat well. However, all whole-food coatings are sensitive, so we suggest that you store the bars in a cool, dry place, away from heat or direct sunlight. For best results, allow product to come to room temperature before handling.

Q. Will the GR2eat bars be an item in the GR2 Control Intro kits?

A. Yes, for an introductory period, the Intro Kit will contain two GR2eat bars - one of each flavor - at no cost.

Q. How does the GR2eat bar compare to the mini meals?

A. GR2eat bars are the perfect mini-meal. They provide about the same calories, and the same balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates you would find in a “mini-meal”.

Q. Can the GR2eat bar be frozen to preserve the shelf life?

A. We do not recommend long-term freezing as it may compromise the integrity of the coating. The bars are packaged in a stay-fresh wrapper to ensure freshness, so freezing is not necessary. All of our products have a “Best If Used By” date on the label. We guarantee full potency, viability, and flavor of the products if used on or before the expiration date, provided they were stored under normal conditions.

Q. Can my children eat a GR2eat bar for a snack?

A. Absolutely! The GR2eat bar makes a great treat for children, providing a healthy substitute for fat and sugar-laden candy.

Q. Are there any dairy products in the GR2eat bar?

A. Yes, GR2eat Bars contain whey protein, caseinate, and lactose. The amount of lactose is so small that it should not be an issue for even the most sensitive lactose intolerant person.

Q. What is Fractionation?

A. Fractionation is a separation process used to obtain specific portions (fractions) of a plant oil. This allows us to make a coating that is solid at room temperature without hydrogenation or transfats.

Q. The label says the product contains sugar. How much?

A. GR2eat bars contain a small amount of sugar. In fact, 10 grams of sugar is only 40 calories, and most of that is from fructose. We need some carbohydrate to keep us off the glycemic roller coaster and out of the insulin trap. That's why all of our mini-meal suggestions offer a balanced combination of protein, fat, and carbohydrates. A piece of cheese (fat and protein) and half an apple (carbs) is a good “mini-meal” example. It has to be that way to be GR2 Control and keep people in the control zone.

Q. Are there any plans to develop additional flavors of the snack bar?

A. At this time we are not planning any other flavors.

Q. Do GR2eat bars contain any gluten?

A. You will be happy to know that all GNLD products are gluten free, including the GR2eat bar.

Q. What is Palm Kernel Oil?

A. Palm Kernel Oil is obtained from the seed or kernel of the palm fruit.

Q. Are GR2eat bars better for me than snack bars?

A. GNLD’s GR2eat bar provides glycemic edge carbohydrates; a balance of protein, fat, and calories; great taste; and controlled glycemic response. No sugar high or crashing low.

Q. Why are there artificial flavors in the snack bar?

A. At GNLD, we use natural flavors whenever possible. However, a 100% natural flavoring system isn't technically feasible in some products. We use the minimal amount of artificial flavoring necessary for our products to achieve an acceptable taste, selecting additional flavors from a list of low allergy food flavors. The artificial flavors we do employ are all food grade pure flavor components that have been approved for use in food products by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Q. How can a snack bar be considered part of a healthy diet?

A. GR2eat bars contain the correct balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fat needed to nourish your body while keeping your blood sugar and insulin levels stable. Unlike other “snack” bars, it is low in sugar, fat, and calories.

Q. Will the GR2eat Bar cause a rapid rise in blood sugar like other snack bars?

A. No GR2eat Bar is formulated with nearly the same amount and ratio of carbohydrates- to-protein as our GR2 Control Meal Replacement Drink. Our Meal Replacement Drink Mix was CLINICALLY proven to maintain stable blood sugar levels for up to two hours after drinking.

Q. Can it be used as a sports bar?

A. Absolutely! GR2eat bars are an excellent pre- and post-workout snack bar that will help fuel your body through the most demanding training sessions or intense games. It provides your body with the carbohydrates it needs for energy, as well as protein and fat for muscle building and repair.

Q. Are there any nuts or traces of nuts in the new snack bar?

A. No, there are no nuts in GR2eat bar. However, it is manufactured in a facility that uses nuts and seeds. You will notice a disclaimer on our packaging to that effect.

Q. Why are there so many different sugars, like honey and sugar, used in the GR2eat bar?

A. As with all GNLD products that contain multiple carbohydrate sources, GR2eat bars were formulated to provide long-lasting energy levels. To accomplish this, different carbohydrate sources are needed: sucrose for quick energy, and fructose for more sustained energy. Like our other “glycemic edge” products, GR2eat bars spare protein for energy, so it can be used for its primary purposes of tissue growth and repair.

Q. What is the source of the lemon flavor in the GR2eat bar?

A. The lemon flavor comes from lemon powder obtained from the whole lemon.

Q. Is there any caffeine in the GR2eat bar?

A. The Luscious Lemon bar does not contain any caffeine. The chocolate coating on the Creamy Caramel bar might contain minimal amounts of caffeine.

Q. What are the crunchy chips in the lemon bar?

A. The crunchy chips are soy nuggets.

Q. Why did GNLD use whey in the snack bar?

A. Whey protein isolate is a high quality, naturally occurring dairy protein found in cow milk. Whey contains more protein with less fat and lactose.

Q. Is GNLD going to offer a combination of lemon and caramel bars in a case?

A. At this time there are no plans to offer a combination of both bars in a case.

Q. At what age can a child eat the GR2eat bar?

A. Any child who can chew their food can eat a GR2eat bar.

Q. What is the coating on the lemon bar?

A. The lemon GR2eat bar coating is yogurt.

FAQs about Formula IV Courtesy of GNLD International

Q. How did GNLD come up with the balance of nutrients in Formula IV® and Formula IV® Plus? What is the rationale for the mix of ingredients?

A. Formula IV and Formula IV Plus are not just your average vitamin and mineral supplements; they're multi-factor food supplements, designed formulated to feed the cells of your body.

When we first introduced Formula IV, it was originally intended to help fill in the nutritional gaps that can occur with the diets of everyday people. Today this basic premise still holds true; the times have changed, but our bodies are still biologically the same. As a matter of fact, the mix of nutrients contained within Formula IV, and our newer Formula IV Plus, is more valid today than ever before. Our contemporary lifestyle and dietary habits have created a greater need for the exact nutrients that are found in these two products. We have known from the beginning that Formula IV includes those nutrients that are beneficial to achieving optimum health, and it is truly in a class all its own. This holds true for Formula IV Plus, as well. Moreover, consuming Formula IV and Formula IV Plus really is more similar to eating food than simply taking a multi-vitamin supplement.

Unlike multi-vitamin products that often provide "megadoses" of certain nutrients, Formula IV and Formula IV Plus provide a balance of nutrients that is considered optimal for the vast majority of people. For those individuals who desire specific combinations of certain nutrients, we offer a wide variety of products to meet each individual's unique needs; a perfect example would be our Daily Vitality Packs, which utilize Formula IV Plus as their core supplement.

At the foundation of Formula IV and Formula IV Plus is our exclusive Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates. The Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates contained within these two products help to support the body in its utilization of nutrients critical to sustain health and vitality. Lipids and sterols are the building blocks for every cell membrane in the human body. Sterols are a class of lipids which include precursors of certain hormones and precursors of vitamin D produced naturally in the body. Without properly balanced lipid/sterol levels, cells can become malnourished, which can lead to cellular fatigue. Sterols and lipids also play a vital role in the assimilation of nutrients by the cell.

Q. Why aren't the minerals in Formula IV or Formula IV Plus chelated?

A. Time tested and proven to be effective and highly bioavailable, Formula IV and Formula IV Plus were developed as multi-factor whole food supplements, with Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates, to support optimal cellular nutrition. These GNLD exclusives have remained unchanged. Chelation mineral technology came after Formula IV's introduction, however since both Formula IV and Formula IV Plus have a long history of effectiveness in supporting optimal health through cellular nutrition, we have no need or desire to change them.

Q. Is there any gamma linolenic acid in Formula IV or Formula IV Plus?

A. Formula IV and Formula IV Plus contain linoleic acid which can be converted to gamma-linolenic acid by the body during metabolism. GNLD does not add gamma-linolenic acid to any of our products, including Formula IV and Formula IV Plus. The body will naturally produce gamma-linolenic acid from linoleic acid, an important component of Formula IV and Formula IV Plus.

Q. What makes Formula IV green?

A. The green color in Formula IV is derived from the natural vegetable pigment, chlorophyll.

Q. What information do we have on the initial studies done on Formula IV? Was it a government grant study?

A. The research that eventually led to the development of Formula IV began in 1946 at a hospital in Southern California. The focus of the research was on the relationship of endocrine function to reports of chronic fatigue. The results of many studies led researchers to the role of lipids in cell function; and that in turn led to the development of Tre-en-en Concentrates. Formula IV was developed as a multi-factor nutritional supplement, designed to work with the lipids and sterols provided by Tre-en-en. Now the cornerstone of our “Energy Program,” Formula IV (and now also Formula IV Plus) have been credited with giving literally thousands of consumers more energy, vitality, and a general feeling of health and wellness!

Q. Are Formula IV and Formula IV Plus gluten-free?

A. The wheat germ we use in Formula IV and Formula IV Plus as part of the Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates contains no wheat gluten. In fact, all GNLD products are gluten-free.

Q. I read somewhere that it is not good to take iron in a multi-supplement formula. If this is true, then why is iron in Formula IV?

A. We’re not sure why anyone would have stated that iron should not be part of a multivitamin supplement. Iron-deficient diets are still widespread in our population and anemia remains a common health concern. For this reason, Formula IV was formulated to contain a sufficient amount of iron to assure that an adequate and healthy amount of this nutrient is supplied through supplementation. Additionally, Formula IV has been specifically formulated to maximize digestion and absorption of iron. If you are concerned about iron intake and would like an iron-free option, consider Formula IV Plus for your supplementation needs.

Q. What are the sources for all the ingredients in Formula IV and Formula IV Plus?

A. Formula IV and Formula IV Plus are not just vitamin and mineral supplements; they are multi-factor food supplements, chock-full of whole food ingredients. Besides containing many of the important vitamins and minerals missing from our diets, they also contain our exclusive Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates. Tre-en-en is the largest component of Formula IV and Formula IV Plus, and the sources are listed on the label, as are many of the other sources of the nutrients used in these products. For example, fish liver oil, the source of vitamin A and vitamin D, is on the Formula IV label. Our approach to product formulation is to always look first to nature for 100% natural, whole food ingredients from the human food chain. Because some natural ingredients are weak, unstable, or unavailable, for some products we next look to natural concentrates or isolates to achieve our formulation goals. Lastly, if the two previous steps don’t deliver the effect we need, then we will select additional pure pharmaceutical-grade ingredients from a list of safe, low-allergy components. These are components which been shown by research to function effectively, providing superior bioavailabilty and overall nutritional excellence. This approach allows us to keep consistent with both nature’s blueprint and the latest scientific nutritional research. It is this approach to excellence that has contributed to GNLD’s distinction and success in the nutrition industry.

Q. Would the yeast in Formula IV and Formula IV Plus affect people with yeast allergies?

A. GNLD uses the unique whole-food source of yeast known as Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in Formula IV and Formula IV Plus. This special strain of yeast is “biologically bound” and highly concentrated in B-vitamins and other natural nutritional cofactors. This biologically bound yeast is grown specifically for nutritional application, and through a special process of growing, harvesting, and drying, a naturally high-potency B-vitamin source material is obtained. This is not a living yeast but rather (like the other food-based components in our nutritional products) it is an organic nutrient source that has been harvested and dried. And, as you may be aware, yeast has a long history of safe use, and has been used for decades by people as a source of supplemental nutrition.

Q. What are Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates?

A. At the foundation of Formula IV and Formula IV Plus is Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates. This unique and exclusive whole-food blend of extracts from wheat, rice, and soy "feeds your cells" with important phytonutrients. Developed and introduced by GNLD in 1958, Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates is the original phytonutrient supplement. It provides phyto-lipids, including omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids essential for optimum health and cellular function, plus the plant sterols beta-sitosterol, gamma-oryzanol, stimasterol and campesterol.

Besides optimizing cellular nutrition, plant sterols may have other beneficial effects as well. These include reducing cholesterol levels, lowering the risk of atheroscelerosis and inhibiting tumors. Octacosanol, which is a closely related component, is also included to aid in critical biological functions.

Q. I am a senior female, taking Active 40+. Do I still need extra calcium?

A. Vitality Pack Active 40+ is a complete, responsible "preventative maintenance" program that meets the special needs of people over 40. It supplies nutrients to support health, as well as digestive enzymes to enhance the body’s utilization of the nutrients it receives. Active 40+ was scientifically formulated to provide a comprehensive combination of nutrients in safe, effective amounts and contains 500 mg of calcium in a highly bioavailable form. The U.S. RDA for postmenopausal women is 1,500 mg of calcium, a much larger amount than is contained in Active 40+. Consequently, if your regular diet is not high in calcium, you may want extra calcium supplementation from one of our calcium supplements. For example, one serving of Vitality Calcium Plus contains 1,000 mg of calcium, sourced from high purity minerals.

Q. Why aren’t there chelated minerals in Active 40+?

A. GNLD researched the specific nutrient requirements for men and women over 40, and formulated a product that best meets their specific needs. GNLD’s Active 40+ addresses the nutritional issues of the mature adult, and provides a stable supply of nutrients to support health and vitality.

The complexed minerals included in Active 40+ are formulated for rapid dissolution and absorption. In fact, they meet and often exceed USP standards for dissolution time. To ensure optimum dissolution and absorption of nutrients in Active 40+, we include additional digestive enzymes, which are not in our other Vitality Packs, to support and enhance the body’s natural digestion and absorption processes.

In addition to the full spectrum of minerals in Active 40+, there are other critically important nutrients included to fulfill the specific nutritional requirements of men and women over 40. For example, it contains a full spectrum of antioxidants to support tissue health and to combat free radical damage. In addition, Active 40+ contains lecithin to support brain function. Active 40+ also has lipotropic factors to help keep lipids in the blood circulating, preventing them from being deposited on arterial walls.

Keep in mind that each Vitality Pack has a unique formulation; all three have a mixture of ingredients, which is specific to a particular lifestyle. However, what all of the Vitality Packs do have in common is a relatively equal cost and the finest, purest, raw materials available anywhere. GNLD’s Daily Vitality Packs supplementation system is an excellent program that provides the nutrients needed to meet the extra demands imposed by today's diverse lifestyles.

Q. What supplements can I suggest for athletes to take?

A. When it comes to sports nutrition, nutrients essential for recovery are crucial for the hard-charging athletes. Antioxidants are an important part of muscle recovery. Also important is muscle rebuilding, which is assisted by protein. An excellent sports nutrition program would include:

Sports 30:This specially formulated Daily Vitality Pack supplies an abundance of balanced, high-potency nutrients that are in high demand during periods of physical activity. In addition to our exclusive Formula IV Plus, each packet contains: Liver + C, a traditional source of energy-related nutrients, Vitamin E for antioxidant protection, B-vitamins for energy production, and vitamin C and bioflavonoids to aid immunity and nutrient absorption.

Antioxidants: Immune system health is needed for everyone, especially athletes, as playing hard and exposure to the elements can really wreak havoc on the immune system. PhytoDefense, Vitamin E Plus, and one of our excellent vitamin C products (Powdered C, Super C, or All-C) can help boost immune power immensely, plus aid in muscle recovery.

Protein: Athletes work their muscles hard, therefore muscle rebuilding is an important factor to consider when choosing products for athletes. Super Ease is an excellent protein product, and well loved by many athletes. GR2 Control Meal Replacement Protein Drink would also be a good protein choice with athletes that are restricting calories.

Digestion: Athletes tend to eat more than the non-athletes, which could make digestion a problem. Beta-Gest and Enzyme Digestive Aid are two great digestive products, and not only aid digestion, but also assist nutrient utilization.

Finally, another product to consider adding to a sports nutrition program is Vitality Aloe Vera Plus. Athletes are under extreme stress, and a refreshing drink of Aloe Vera Plus in the evenings can help in the relaxation process after a grueling training day. After all, an athlete needs rest, too!

Q. Why is the Vitamin B tablet in the Stress 30 pack coated red, and what is it?

A. The red color coating on the Stress B+C tablet is from the natural carmine color. Natural color was added to Stress B+C to readily distinguish this tablet from other GNLD B vitamin tablets in the manufacturing, packaging, and quality control areas. You’ll be pleased to know that GNLD does not use artificial colorings in our products. Our tablets obtain their rich colors from nature’s own vibrant colors. This is just another example of the GNLD difference!

Q. Why are there so many pills in the Daily Vitality Packs? Are there specific nutrients that work better as separate pills?

A. The need for several supplements within a Daily Vitality Pack is to be certain that the nutrient totals are what is needed for optimum day-to-day health, while keeping the supplements at a size that is convenient to swallow. Also, the ingredients within each individual supplement are combined for the best possible digestion, absorption, and utilization of important nutrients. Another point to remember is that GNLD relies on natural, whole-food ingredients as much as possible, and this influences the tablet and capsule size as well.

Q. Why does Stress 30 have more zinc than the other Vitality Packs? Is it possible to have too much zinc?

A. Zinc is one of the nutrients that is in a high demand by the body during times of stress, and zinc affects the absorption of other minerals, particularly copper. However, in a supplement such as Stress 30, it is partnered with many vitamins and minerals to ensure that there is no problem with nutrient absorption. Stress 30 is a complete nutritional program formulated to meet the needs of a stressful lifestyle by providing an abundance of balanced, high-potency nutrients that are in high demand during periods of stress. That is why Stress 30 contains a larger amount (60 mg) of zinc than Sports 30 (30 mg) or Active 40+ (15 mg).

In general, a daily intake up to 75 mg of zinc is considered safe for the majority of the population. Prolonged intakes of 100 mg or more per day have been associated with inhibited absorption of copper and can produce copper deficiency anemia.

Q. We are currently on the GR2 Control program. Do we continue to take the regular GNLD supplements?

A. Absolutely! We recommend that anyone on GR2 Control continue with his/her normal GNLD supplementation program. The GR2 Control weight loss program, although extremely healthy, is still a normal diet, therefore additional supplementation is recommended.

Q. If I am taking one of the Daily Vitality Packs, do I need to take any other supplements?

A. For some, Vitality Packs will be comprehensive enough for their needs, others may have specific health concerns that they want to address. Therefore, additional products should be considered. For example, if one has a concern for heart health, Vitamin E Plus, Lipotropic Adjunct, and Omega III Salmon Oil/Concentrate are excellent options to be considered.

TRE-EN-EN® FOR CELLULAR EFFICIENCY Our bodies are composed of trillions of cells which must work efficiently if we are to stay healthy. How do cells stay healthy? The key is their membranes. Like bodies, cells must take in nutrients and eliminate wastes. Every cell in the body is surrounded by a lipid membrane with the discretionary power to allow only needed nutrients to enter the cell. By the same token, it allows only waste material and metabolic products (hormones, enzymes, neurotransmitters, etc.) to exit. Deficiencies of lipids, sterols, and amino acids can compromise the discretionary power of cells. Cells can become “starved” (inhibited in their ability to take in substances) even though nutrients are available. And they can become “constipated” (inhibited in their ability to eliminate accumulating waste products or export metabolites). Under these conditions, cells work inefficiently, expending more energy than healthy cells would to get the same results. Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates supply essential lipids and sterols to promote the efficient functioning of cells, glandular systems, and the entire body. Remember, we are only as healthy as our cells, and Tre-en-en strengthens the lipid/sterol “link” in our “Chain of Life,” supporting cellular health and vitality.

PROVEN EFFECTIVE IN LABORATORY TESTS Scientists have known for years that lipids and sterols are required for normal cellular functioning, glandular activity, and overall growth and development. A series of studies conducted at Texas A&M University in 1987 confirmed the nutritional benefits of Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates (lipids and sterols from wheat, rice, and soybeans). The seven-week studies looked at growth, development, maturation, and glandular activity of young rats fed either a standard control diet (laboratory chow fortified with vitamins and minerals) or the standard diet with Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates substituted for the lipids used in the standard chow. Animals were allowed to eat as much as they wanted; both chows had the same caloric content. (All tests were performed and all animals were housed and cared for with the highest level of concern for the health and well being of the animals. No animals were exposed to conditions of pain or suffering.) When the amount of food consumed was correlated with the amount of weight the rats gained, the researchers found that the Tre-en-en-fed animals displayed superior growth and development, indicating that their bodies made better use of the available nutrients. In all cases the Tre-en-en-fed group grew faster, achieved maturity faster, and had better overall development than the group that was fed the control diet. In addition, the cardiovascular systems of the Tre-en-en-fed group were better developed, and their adrenal activity — an indicator of their energy levels and ability to respond to stress — was greater.

OVERALL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

Animals fed diets fortified with Tre-en-en Grain Concentrates attained a greater level of overall growth and development than did animals fed a control diet.

CARDIOVASCULAR DEVELOPMENT

Animals on the Tre-en-en diet displayed greater cardiovascular development than did animals fed the control diet. Cardiovascular development (measured by heart weight) paralleled overall growth and development, indicating that larger animals were not “fatter” but instead were more fully developed.

NUTRIENT UTILIZATION EFFICIENCY

Compared to animals on a control diet, the animals fed Treen- en Grain Concentrates demonstrated superior growth, development, and maturation, even though each test group consumed the same amount of calories. This result indicates that the Tre-en-en-fed animals utilized nutrients from food more efficiently than did control animals.

GLANDULAR ACTIVITY

Glandular activity (as measured by liver glycogen levels) was almost twice as high in the Tre-en-en-fed rats compared to the control animals. This result indicates that the Tre-en-en-fed animals had higher energy levels and were better prepared to handle stress. Unique and exclusively available from GNLD, Tre-en-en provides lipids and sterols cells need to be their healthy best! With cold-pressed, cold-processed extracts and concentrates from wheat germ, rice bran, and soybeans, Tre-en-en helps assure good nutrition at the cellular level
